New Music - Red Sky July

Hello out there.

I haven't had a "song/artist of the week/month" type thingy before but I think it's about time to start. I come across quite alot of new music out there so I've decided I will blog about it, after all that is what a blog is for.

I don't know how frequent these postings will be but today's offering is some new music from a recent collaboration called "Red Sky July". Red Sky July are Shelley Poole (more about her later), Charity Hair, Ally McErlaine, Tim Weller and Paul Statham....

Here is the bio from their website:
They are Charity Hair (The Alice Band), Shelly Poole (Alisha’s Attic) and Ally Mcerlaine (Texas) -
Three successful musician/writers united in a love of folk, country, vintage music and vintage clothes.
The achingly beautiful songs on the debut album Rivers Wild range from otherworldly modern folk to bluegrass stompalongs always informed by a wonderful pop sensibility.
Shelly and Charity’s perfect two part harmonies throughout, combined with Allys elaborate, atmospheric guitar playing, make for something really rather special.
Compared to such greats as Simon and Garfunkel, and being hailed as a sexier “The Judds”, Red Sky cant wait to get out on the road with this new project. “That’s when it all makes sense” says Shelly; “We all spend so long in the studio as writers that coming together to actually play the stuff we love, interact and sing out loud reminds you why you got into music in the first place.”
Red Sky July’s first album is a true labour of love for three individual players that came together to make a dream, and they did.
I have to confess that I was first attracted to Red Sky July because of Shelly Poole. Yes that's right, Shelly Poole from Alisha's Attic. Alisha's Attic were a phenomenon that hit UK pop in the mid-late 90s, back when I was a mere kid. At the time I was totally engrossed by them and bought all their albums with my pocket money! There was alot more to Alisha's Attic than "I am, I Feel", which seemed to tap into the early-Alanis-type sounds of the time. The albums contained full and beautiful harmonies for one thing.... and maybe that is why this new collaboration Red Sky July got my attention - I'd say the harmonies are pretty much as beautiful as they could be. The music has a country feel to it, yet it is folky with a hint of vintage. Here are some good examples of the work:

Morning Song:

White Feather:

The Gold Hour:
